The Bureau Plat is signed behind each of the four locks, Linke, and initialed Four Times, FL, behind four different sections of the bronze. In addition, the Bureau Plat has a signed model number.This desk is featured on page 84 of Christopher Payne's book as well as some text on the bureau plat on page 80 of the book. This desk was first made in 1888 and two others were completed by 1896. It is one of Linke's most popular pieces and in great demand by knowledgeable collectors of Linke's work.
This is a magnificent piece recently cleaned with minor restoration performed by Eric Chapeau and David Linker of Chapeau Antiques & Restoration, Inc. of Hoboken, New Jersey. Monsieur Chapeau and Monsieur Linker are considered among the finest restorers in the United States.

François Linke ( 1855-1946 ) was born in Bohemia and moved to Paris in 1881. He began producing furniture at 170 Rue de Faubourg - saint-Antoine and established a showroom at 26 Place Vendome. François Linke is considered the finest ebeniste of the late 19th Century. In 1900 he was awarded a gold medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle.
