French Gilt bronze Mounted Kingwood and Tulipwood Bar Cabinet by Paul Sormani

The rectangular breche d'Alep marble top above a fall front opening to a mirrored interior, the whole raised on cabriole legs. Paul Sormani (1817-1877) Born in Venice in 1817, Paul Sormani produced standard and elaborate furniture from a number of locations in Paris. In 1858, he expanded his business and produced articles modeled after the previous century's maitres ebenistes. In 1867, he set up shop at 10 Rue Charlot, Paris. After his death Sormani's son Paul Charles took over the business and later moved it to 134 Boulevard Haussman. [Christie's Biography October 9 , 2002]
